The village chief plays a central role in the governance and community life of Bongbal Village under the Panchayati Raj system of Singngat subdivision, Churachandpur district, Manipur.

Governance: Bongbal is governed under the Panchayati Raj system — Singhat (ST) Vidhan Sabha & Outer Manipur Lok Sabha.

The Story of Bongbal Village

Bongbal Village is located in Singngat Sub Division, Churachandpur, Manipur, consists of around 60 households under the chieftainship of Pu Lalminthang Kipgen.

"BRIEF HISTORY"

In 1948, Pu Lunkholal, founding chief and few people visited the Songpi chief to inquire about purchasing of land, now known as teritory of Bongbal Village, appeal made by Pu Lunkholal and his team was accepted and agreed by Songpi Chief in act of humanity and fraternity which led to the established of Bongbal Village in 1949 consisting of around 10 houses and the community began to inhabit the teritory since then.

In 1951, the then Chief Pu Lunkholal and some villagers traveled to Songpi village while bringing along Mithun (Siel) that had four younger siblings (selchal nao 4 nei) in act of negotiations and brotherhood.

In 1952, the Bongbal village church was founded.

In 1953, Bongbal village Private L.P school was established.

In 1955, some Nepalese settled in certain areas of Bongbal village.

In 1956, the Bongbal Private L.P school was upgraded into a Government L.P school.

In 1957, the landowner's property documents (Land Patta/Jamabandi) were settled.

In 1958, the Jamabandi (Land Patta)were claimed by the Bongbal village owner.

In 1979, the territory of Bongbal was transferred to Pu Lhukholun by Pu Lunkholal for a sum of Rs 6000.

In 1990, Pu Jamkhokai, the son of Pu Lunkholal, repurchased the Bongbal land from Pu Lhukholun for Rs 10,000.

In 1991, the demarcation between Bongbal land and L.Phaimol land was marked, accompanied by a communal feast and a monetary gift of Rs 5000, to promote peaceful coexistence. This event was witnessed by Mi-Upa, the chief of Haijang village, known as Pu Letkholun, and the boundary was named KAIKONGBOL river.
